Chaloner's, a tobacconist and magazine shop, was a legendary downtown Adrian destination for 141 years until it closed in 2015. A group of local investors purchased the building, at 108 W. Maumee, in the spring of 2017. Their goals were to restore the exterior and interior, retain the beloved atmosphere of the original shop, and bring the retailing up to modern standards to ensure the future of the business and building. They also purchased the adjacent building at 110 W. Maumee to expand the Chaloner's space and provide a second means of egress from the second and third floors. Chaloner's includes a new walk-in cigar humidor, and, of course, Chaloner's famous popcorn. The first floor of the adjacent building houses a coffee shop and gourmet coffee roasting company.
